About the Artist
Jonathan Hirschfeld (b. 1979, Jerusalem) is an Israeli painter, writer, journalist, and curator. He studied at the Department of Art at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem (2004) and holds an MFA from the interdisciplinary program at Tel Aviv University (2011).
His works engage in a conceptual, visual, and historical dialogue with mythologies and early Israeli modernist traditions. He states that his art uses world mythologies to evoke and express personal, political, and artistic ideas.
Hirschfeld co-founded Hanina Gallery in Tel Aviv with Yakir Segev in 2008. In addition to his artistic practice, he teaches and lectures extensively on art, with a particular focus on art history. He has exhibited in numerous galleries and museums, including the Center for Contemporary Art in Munich, Germany; the Ramat Gan Museum of Israeli Art; and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
