Yehezkel Streichman

Yehezkel Streichman (1906–1993) was a foundational Israeli painter and Israel Prize laureate (1990). Born in Lithuania, he immigrated Palestine in 1924 and studied at Bezalel in Jerusalem, later training in Paris and Florence. In 1935, he settled in Tel Aviv, where he became a leading educator and co-founder of the "New Horizons" movement. The rare, intimate mid-1980s sketchbook works featured on Givon on Paper capture Streichman’s lyrical abstract mastery, featuring evocative references to Safed, Haifa, and Tel Aviv.
