About the Artist

Ruti De Vries (b. 1989), lives and works in Tel Aviv, is a multi-disciplinary artist incorporating painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, collage, and textile design. She graduated from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design's MFA program in 2015 (which included an Erasmus at Beaux-Arts Paris in 2014), following her B.Ed in Education and Fine Arts from HaMidrasha – Faculty of the Arts in 2012.

De Vries’s extensive practice consists of dialogues between cultures, traditions, urban symbols, myths, and imaginary worlds. She describes her artistic practice as an expanding spiral, into which she gathers new motifs and materials over time. She is influenced by ancient art, outsider art, and the worlds of fashion and theater. She frequently works with simple materials and ready-mades, from which she creates elaborate scenes that explore the relation between painting and sculpture, installations and stage design. Her aesthetic, conceptual, and functional practice references cultures, mythologies, and ancient folklore, into which she weaves contemporary themes.

Her works are included in private and public collections, including the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and Haaretz Art Collection. She exhibited solo exhibitions in a variety of institutions, such as the Nahum Gutman Museum, the Artists' Residence Herzliya, and Art Centre Dresden. Her works were featured in numerous group exhibitions at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art,  MoBY (Museums of Bat Yam), Petach Tikva Museum, among others. She was selected to participate in the Cité Internationale residency in Paris in 2022, and received various awards and recognitions, including The Yehoshua Rabinovitz Foundation (2015) and the Israeli Ministry of Culture (Young Artist Award, 2016).
