Mordechai Ardon

Mordechai Ardon (1896–1992) was a prominent Israeli painter, awarded the Israel Prize for Painting (1963) and the UNESCO Prize at the Venice Biennale in 1954. Ardon was the head of the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem (1940–1952), and was known for deeply influencing the institution by promoting the Bauhaus movement (which he studied in Weimar, 1920–1925). His works are included in prominent collections, among them: the Metropolitan Museum, MoMa (NYC), Tate (London), the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), and the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
