Avigdor Stematsky

Avigdor Stematsky (1908-1989), born in Odessa, was a pioneering painter and print artist, recognized for his significant contribution to Israeli abstract art. He moved to Palestine in 1921, studied at Bezalel Academy, and in 1929 studied in Paris at Académie de la Grande Chaumière and Académie Colarossi. Upon his return to Israel, he founded the "Massad" group in Tel Aviv (1929-1930) and co-founded the "New Horizons" collective in the 1950s with Joseph Zaritsky and Yehezkel Streichman.
